How to Groom Your Plushie: A Step-by-Step Guide

We’ve been getting a lot of messages lately with the same question: “How do I make my new Love and Deepspace plushie look as cute as the ones in your videos?” Today, we’re bringing you a super practical guide on how to care for your cotton plushies!

Just a heads-up: Plushies generally vary in hair texture and length (short vs. long styles), so some may need a little extra TLC.

If you have any questions, feel free to comment or DM us on Instagram @rumisweetdreams or TikTok @shoprumistore. And if this guide helps, tag us in your plushie’s glow-up pics on social media—we’d love to see them!

Our little model today is Sylus.

Here’s Sylus fresh out of the package: frizzy hair full of fuzz, a bit greasy-looking, and his face shape was… not his best angle.

But no worries—let’s transform him into an adorable little guy!

Tools You’ll Need:

A comb (pet grooming steel combs work best—opt for one with a pointed tip)

A blush palette

Some cotton swabs

Step 1: Brushing the Hair

1.1 Back Hair:

Gently brush upward to remove loose fibers and debris. Be soft—no tugging!

1.2 Front Hair (with Optional Fluffing):

The front has embroidered details, so please handle with care.

(Optional Step) I like extra volume, so I tease the layers slightly (feel free to skip this if you prefer a smoother look). Here, I use the comb’s pointed end to lift small sections.

A few things to keep in mind:

  1. Avoid areas with double-stitched embroidery (highlighted in the pic)—they’ll look messy if fluffed.

2. It’s normal for the weft to show if you fluff, but just cover it with surrounding hair.

3. Go slow and gentle!

1.3 Some Final Touches:

Brush all hair downward, then muss it slightly for a natural look.

Step 2: Reshaping the Face and Body

Shipping can squish the stuffing unevenly. Good news: You can move the cotton because that’s what these plushies are made of!

Now, Sylus’s face needs plumping. Let’s turn him upside down.

Press your thumbs on top of his head and fingers under his chin, then push toward the center—like a pastry chef kneading dough!

Repeat this step until you are happy with his face shape.

Flip him back: Voilà! Rosy, chubby cheeks.

Step 3: Adding Blush

3.1 Cheeks:

Apply blush to three key areas – the space between his eyes and underneath his eyes.. Dip a cotton swab in blush, tap off any excess, then dab in circular motions.

3.2 Extra Glow:

Dust blush on his ears and limbs for a “just pinched” cuteness.

Ta-Dah! Dress him up, and he’s ready for adventures (or your social media feed)!
